Wow Geri, this is truly a powerful piece of seeing things from the inside out... your life after working 30 years in corporate, your daughter and not wanting to live by the rules she had grown up with, your mom and others as role models for the working mom... and then asking the question when there is nothing else to fix.... and then recognizing just sitting still as a place of being.

Yes, my daughter is definitely my guru! I think it’s because we love our kids more than any other human we encounter. We will do anything for them. I would not have done all the work on myself if my daughter didn’t push back on the silent rules I had. Thank you so much for reading and commenting, really appreciate it!
Thoroughly enjoyed reading this. It moved me. Your writing is amazing. Brought back memories of my son who at 15 declared he’ll never follow my footsteps into banking. Declared he opted for a completely less life-sucking career. Can you believe that? He chose to be a car designer. Children brought up with love and confidence always choose their own paths. That’s my observations.
A car designer that is a pretty cool career. My daughter is contemplating going into Finance. We will see what she decides. Anyway, we can all have more than one career. Look at you now, a professor, that’s pretty amazing! Thank you for your kind words!
Yes, I hope gone are the days when parents were telling their kids what career to go into! I wanted to study literature, my mother said are you crazy! You will never find a job, go into Finance and I did. But now I get to write. So all good at the end!

Certainly true that present generate will have more than 1 career. I advocate for parents allowing their children to carve their own paths.
